Tamgaly-Tas (Kazakh “Тамғалы-Тас”, stones with signs/painted stones) is
the stow at the river Ily, 120 km away to the north from Almaty. Here the rocks
still preserve many petroglyphs, drawings of mysteries gods, latest Buddhist’s
writings. There are around one thousand rock drawings among the petroglyphs,
best known are the images of Buddha Shakyamuni, Buddha of Infinite Light
Amitabha and Bodhisattva of Compassion Avalokiteshvara. Besides Buddhist
writings, there is the stone with Old Turkic runic writings of the
VIII—IX century, supposedly left of the cumans.

11:00AM-02:00PM – walk to the petroglyphic drawings of Buddha, to the Cave of
Fools, lift to the viewing point (magnificent view to Ily)
02:00PM-03:00PM – lunch at the river bank of Ily (food, drinks)
03:00PM-04:00PM – walk around the picturesque river bank
04:00PM – gathering at the bus
04:30PM – departure for Almaty
06:30PM – arrival in the city

Departure point is Abai avenue corner with Baitursynov street (bus stop to
Dostyk avenue direction, next to the casino Flamingo).
